With the exception of one seller, the Burmese Ruby saga now seems to be over, good news! , afraid not! , the deception as simply moved several thousand miles to East Africa!!

The exact same stones that were being sold as "Burmese" are now being listed as "Tunduru" or "Cambodian" .... the fact is that they are neither! they are African/Madagascan "fracture filled" ..... the exact same things mentioned in the other thread apply here, the link to the previous topic is:-

the listing below in not Cambodian and is 100% fracture filled/glass filled, I do not blame the seller, and fully believe he is also a victim of the person he/she purchased from!

The listing below is an unknown!!, because the photograph is of a Synthetic Ruby, if it is of the actual Ruby that is for sale, then it is a major problem!, also check out the question in the listing, the answer is most disturbing!!

why can't people just do business the right way??

Jeff.

What's also very telling is the misuse of the name.

Rubies from this region of Tanzania, if any good, are referred to as Winza rubies and the Sapphires as Tunduru or Songea.

They also have very specific characteristics that make determination of their origin easier than rubies from many other locations. Hopefully this will encourage buyers to have any that they purchase checked by an independent gem lab for both natural origin and location of origin.

It should be noted that like Emeralds, Rubies are coloured by chromium, this almost always means that there will be noticeable inclusions in natural stones. Anything exceedingly clean should either be sold to top-end dealers for astronomical prices. If not it is, at the very least, questionable.
