Good guesses, but nope.

Keep looking, the answer may be just a 'scoop' away :whistling:, but then again, with a left of center and far right of normal sense of humor......

The only things "normal" are the eggs and milk? on the top of the picture Ruthie. So it must be some kind of "thingy's" dipped in batter or dough.

Good eye, Miems. Are the eggs an important part of figuring out what this is or just a 'prop' to throw one off base? Hmmmm....

Keep 'digging' and you may 'uncover' the answer.

Snakes alive - young snakes. That is MrA's guess.

We don't know what is under the cat litter that the critters are crawling through - could they be newts? Or young salamanders? Or young mole rats?

Earthworms?

Hint: There are several guesses that are bits and pieces of the 'whole'. 'Play around' with the 'bits and pieces', perhaps adding a little 'something' or two, to make the 'whole'. Don't worry about getting your hands 'dirty', they'll wash .

Ta dah!!! Found the recipe too. Especially for Miems:

1 (18 ounce) box spice cake mix or 1 (18 ounce) box German chocolate cake mix

3 eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)

1/3 cup oil (or as called for by your cake mix)

1 1/3 cups water (or as called for by your cake mix)

1 (18 ounce) box white cake mix

3 eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)

1/3 cup oil (or as called for by your cake mix)

1 1/3 cups water (or as called for by your cake mix)

1 (6 ounce) box vanilla instant pudding mix

1 (18 ounce) package vanilla sandwich cookies

green food coloring

12 small Tootsie Rolls

1 new kitty litter box

1 new kitty litter box

1 Pooper Scooper

Directions:

1

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to box directions (any size pan). Prepare pudding, chill until ready to assemble. Crumble sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often.

2

Set aside all but 1/4 cup.

3

To the 1/4 cup of crumbs, add a few drops of green food coloring and mix using fork or shake in a jar.

4

When cakes are cooled to room temp, crumble into a large bowl.

5

Toss with half the remaining cookie crumbs and chilled pudding.

6

You probably won't need all the pudding, mix the cake and "feel" it, you don't want it soggy, just moist; ge ntly combine. Line litter box.

7

Put mixture into box.

8

Put 3 unwrapped tootsie rolls in microwave safe dish and heat until softened.

9

Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly.

10

Repeat with 3 more tootsie rolls and bury in cake mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top.

11

Scatter green crumbles lightly over top (chlorophyll in cat litter). Heat 3 tootsie rolls in microwave until almost melted.

12

Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with cookie crumbs.

13

Spread remaining tootsie rolls over top; take one and heat until pliable, hang over side of litter box, sprinkle with cookie crumbs.

But we don't get tootsie rolls here... :(

And that's the way the cookie, er, uh, cake, crumbles....

Seems we have a Monday winner. Congrats, books.... kitty litter cake it is. Please send ship info via PM.

Thanks to all who played.

Here's a 'spin' on recipe above:

1 chocolate cake mix

1 tub of frosting your choice

1 12-oz pack of pecan sandies cookies

1 green colored sugar

6-8 Tootsie Rolls (or more as desired)

1 new (unused) litter box

1 new (unused) kitty litter pooper scooper

Bake cake as directed on box

Invert 13 x 9 chocolate cake into a new (unused) litter box. The cake and litter box create the base for the kitty litter cake

Frost cake

Place pecan sandies cookies in a large Ziplock type plastic bag and pound cookies with a mallet or by hand until the cookies are broken into small pieces

Sprinkle the crumbled cookies on top of the chocolate cake

Sprinkle cookie crumbs with green colored sugar or green sprinkles (the green color creates the look of chlorophyll in real kitty litter)

Take 6-8 unwrapped Tootsie Rolls roll by hand and shape into.... umm, you know.... (they will soften with heat from your hands or you can microwave for just a few seconds to make them pliable)

Bury some Tootsie Rolls and place more on the surface of the cookie crumb mixture

Put some powdered sugar on some to achieve maximum gross-out

Place new (unused) kitty litter pooper scooper in the kitty litter cake

To serve on a table, place the kitty litter cake on top of newspaper adorned with a few sprinkles of cookies "kitty litter"

Personally, I have made a note on next year's calendar for a 'gathering' on April Fool's Day. I can hardly wait to see the expressions on my guest's faces!

Thanks, Ruthie - but I think Miems' should 'take the cake' - she came closest as I have seen this cake before somewhere - not sure when and where but it stirred a memory :toung:

Glad that there's fun on the forum again!

As we don't get tootsie rolls here, maybe you should list some so that we can make this delicious-looking cake for Wayne...

What? No Tootsie Rolls? That is.... well, that is almost 'sinful'. Hmmm, methinks I can fix that.

Everyone who played, please send me your shipping info via PM. If possible, I will 'snag' a volunteer your side, ship a bag of Tootsie Rolls to them and have them divide the bag and ship some to each of you. Of course, I will pay volunteer's postage costs to ship to each of you. (If you'd like to volunteer, please let me know via PM. Thank-you.)

No Tootsie Rolls indeed!
