Jacques Kuun 12 Posted August 2, 2013 As far as I know, the term for the (smaller 3,5 inch disc) STIFFY was only used in the RSA. The Americans still referred to it as a FLOPPY. Does it not say a lot about us? Keep well and regards Jacques

Yes in the days before thumb drives it was a bit confusing when one went overseas for meetings and asked to borrow a Stiffy! If one asked a local male colleague if he had a Stiffy.....one got a dirty look.
wayjen 10 Posted August 3, 2013 The worse was trying to insert a floppy disc into the drive making sure you did not bend it for fear of corrupting the data.
kyle2 10 Posted August 3, 2013 The worse was trying to insert a floppy disc into the drive making sure you did not bend it for fear of corrupting the data. Wayne are you trying to corrupt innocent drives with your floppy again?
wayjen 10 Posted August 3, 2013 I recently threw some floppy discs away (the cardboard ones), which had a copy of the files for the first Monkey Island game on them.

staccato 10 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) We had to use the word "Stiffy" - much more "inspiring" than a "floppy" don't you think? A FLOPPY DISC is a roadworker ridden over by a steamroller, a STIFFY DISC is when he is in the morgue, a HARD DRIVE is when the steamroller breaks! Edited October 27, 2013 by staccato
