Hi guys, Can anyone shead some light on how to differentiate between the ORC / OFS stamps used for revenue and the revenue stamps used as postage. (SACC F2-F16) If the cancelation is hand writen is this an indication of this fiscal stamp used as postage? and if the stamp is perforated is this an indication of revenue usage? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Johnny_AA

Hello John

My knowledge on Pre-Union is rather limited, but as far as I know both the Perforated and Pen (hand written) Cancellations denote fiscal usage. Postal usage is indicated by a round black / grey postmark.

Jacques

Hi Jaques

You are correct on this but remember some stamps which the railways used were perfined eg CSAR but were so to say postally used. Some revenue stamps were also postally used especially during the Anglo Boer War.

Regards

Steve
