Here it was also strangely warm yesterday afternoon, also like a fridge inside...needless to say all the doors & windows were open to try get the warm in and cold out ! Evening was cool but still ok, but by middle of the night it was icy again ! This morning is crisp ! To twist hubbys arm you have to make him think it is his idea to go ! Hehe always works for me !

In reply to NooNooBug:

I've been totally honest with him by letting him know in advance that he will have to pay for everything on this trip out of his account as I am as broke as I can be (shop and BoB is quiet and I've got huge overheads this month!). He's been wanting to go to Matjiesfontein and surrounds for ages and with the long weekend, this would be a perfect opportunity as I can actually achieve quite a few things on Monday's holiday as some places trade on this day.

Plan of action if I can get it right is to leave very early on Sunday morning because Rovos Rail will be leaving Matjiesfontein at 10h30 to be in CT by 18h00 - we love to "chase" (or follow) specialised trains for photos and have not had the chance yet to do that particular route. Take a slow meander through to CT more or less in line with the train's timing.

Monday morning I can pop in to a few suppliers and get to places which we usually run out of time to visit when we dash through for our 24-hour trips. Should also finally have the time to go to the Iziko museum to see their stunning (and huge) gemstone / mineral collection... amongst other things.

Leave the accom by 07h00 to be at the main supplier when they open. I can easily write off at least 4 to 5 hours there but must leave by 13h00 the latest in order to pop in at the final supplier before heading home again... unless I can get to them before the main supplier... mmm... (thinking of saving mileage by avoiding going back to the city centre from the south coast).

Have to leave CT by 15h00 the latest (absolutely pushing it) as it will take about 5 hours to get home and hubby hates travelling after dark! I might just have to really move my butt at the suppliers so we can leave CT even earlier.

This way the shop is only closed for one day... but if we really do run late, I can always open the shop later on Wed for trade.

Now to try and squeeze in some "man shopping" I may just have to alter my dates slightly and have the shop closed on Wed entirely too - that way at least he can do some shopping for whatever he wants (and believe me the list is not short!).

Wondering how I can persuade him completely as I've told him that the decision to go lies with him... unless I can make him feel really guilty by us not being in CT for my birthday as originally planned - my bday was "cancelled" as he had signed up to help with the air race so we could not go on the trip - missed everything I had been looking forward to do that weekend.

PS. Some extra reasoning could be that I have checked the weather reports, etc and the weather will be pretty much perfect in CT up until next Wed!

mmm sent him on his shopping spree while you at supplier? Sounds like a hectic but eventful trip planned ! Chasing trains sounds like fun ! Hope you enjoy it & get loads of bargains at the suppliers ! PS I am feeling green...I am a CT girl & my family are all there so if you need a baggage carrier, tripod carrier, lady in waiting, I am sure I can become available !!

CCG you can always fake the weather reports - print out your version and leave it in a prominent spot so that it can't be missed - then find a whole lot of jobs that 'only a man can do' around the house but not inside, outside! Snow, bitterly cold wind in 'Odies', temperatures into the minus - Cape Town lovely fine sunny weather etc. etc. etc. AND if you get it wrong - not your fault "the weatherman got it wrong!"

@ svw - I like your way of thinking! :)

I've thought about another tactic but I'm not sure how well it would work without causing an argument - every single trip we have taken in our 19 years together has been paid by me - including our honeymoon! I think it's about time he pays for a trip, don't you? (it's not like I'm asking to go to Europe for 3 weeks - just CT for 3 days!)

Another piece of ammo I can use is that since we've moved to ODN, he's paid for nothing - zero, nada, zilch! I cover all expenses and responsibilities, bond, insurances, all groceries, booze (him only cos I don't drink), fuel, entertainment (ie. TV), etc. I work my behind off in the shop and on BoB and he sits around and complains that he is bored.

There is one hell of a list of things to do in and around our home (maintenance wise) over and above the usual day-to-day things so I can easily draw up a list that is about fifty times longer than his shopping list!

I can play this dirty, I can play this fair, or I can just tell him where to go jump and go on an extended holiday without him but with his bank card.

Choices...

If he ever annoys you and you throw him out, can I apply for his position? :)

He must have some uses.......otherwise!!! You do spoil him.

He is like our government....takes a lot but gives nothing back.

@ ColinP - he drives me nuts more often than you think, but I guess I still love the bugger... despite how many grey hairs he's given me! LOL

@ Alloway - he has his uses... but not the conventional ones that may come to mind.

Ultimately he is spoiled rotten and he enjoys it immensely... just wish he could spoil me once in a while...

Wow - after much begging, pleading, threatening, reasoning, and torture we are going to CT for the weekend!

Granted I had to make a few sacrifices, but it is okay - I'll survive. (not allowed to attend the BoB dinner this year and not allowed to go shopping in CT until after December... darn!)

Oh well... my part of the deal is that the bead room has to be "finished" by Sat afternoon (repackaging and reshelving) and his part is that he has to get the bakkie washed (from when they did the air race a few weeks back - hundreds of km on gravel roads!).

I really do have to ask seeing as you say you pay for everything, do everything etc etc why don't you just tell him what your plans are, for instance this weekend you are going to CT, you will be going to the BoB dinner, you will be going shopping in CT when you desire to do so......and if he doesnt like it he can bugger off. Surely a toy boy would be cheaper & also not tell you what to do with your own money?

@ voldermort - the exception is that this trip has to be paid in full by him - including all my shopping! I think that the thought of him having to use his bank card for each and every transaction this weekend put the scare into him entirely! (but it's about time)

I've been put on a strict budget but he does not know that I randomly forget the meaning of the word! LOL

Mixing up the numbers can be done quite easily...

He does not even realise that I've already paid for the accom in full as to secure a 50% discount at one of my favourite establishments - Medindi Manor Guest House. Booked for three nights which means four days away from home - Sunday on the road, Monday doing what I want to (incl a few shops that will be open), Tuesday at my main suppliers, and a quick stop on the way out of CT at a new supplier (shop fittings) then homewards.

I wonder when we'll be able to squeeze in a few "man shops"? (evil laugh....)

BoB Dinner???

@Just Beachin - every year the top sellers per province are invited to a function held by BoB management. I have been fortunate enough to attend a few functions over the past few years.

To be on the invitation list is something to work hard towards - if you're not in the top sellers, you're not on the list! It takes lots of hard work and determination... and a lot of happy satisfied buyers to secure your place. I was pleasantly surprised when we were first invited a few years back - it feels like an acknowledgement for all your hard work!

Back from CT safe and sound - well at least I am - not too sure about hubby's bank account as he has had this shocked look on his face since we walked out of our main supplier on Tuesday afternoon! LOL

Had an absolute blast but hated the traffic and crowded shops - don't miss that at all! Weather was wonderful even though it started raining late Tuesday afternoon right through until we left earlier today.

But sooooo happy to be home!

Glad you are home safe and sound:bigsmile: Thanks for letting me in on the info above, but try as I may, I'm having a hard time with consistency in sale and volume :sad2: Where do I go to find out how to get on this "Top Sellers List"......not that I could afford to go to that dinner, that is unless they collected me in a silver carriage and returned me before midnight:awesome:

I am also back from CT. Think my hubby also has a worried look on his face. Visited a great antique shop in Wynberg. My hubby saw her buy now ads on BOB and took my there.

I was banned from several shops / stops including secondhand furniture and antique shops - apparently I've done enough damage to his bank account to last a lifetime (yeah right!)...

Men just don't understand a woman's shopping needs! Like men (well most of them) enjoy beer or a tipple... us women prefer shopping! At least at the end of the day we have something to show for what we spend yet what they enjoy ends up down the loo!
