captain emo 11 Posted January 19, 2013 Howdy folks. Was wondering if any of the more mechanically minded have a suggestion as to what max be causing a problem I have. When driving my car I hear a metallic squeek coming from the front wheels. It speeds up and slows down as the speed of the car does. I have already checked bearings and looked for loose wheels. No joy. If I could equate the sound to anything it would be like a rusty bed spring.
Mad about Jack 10 Posted January 20, 2013 Check your brake pads and discs, could be uneven wear causing the noise.
alloway65 10 Posted January 20, 2013 Check your brake pads and discs, could be uneven wear causing the noise. Or very worn linings....less than 2mm to 3mm remaining linings. Could also be a broken spring.
svw 10 Posted January 20, 2013 We have had exactly the same thing with my one son's car and after replacing the brake pads and all was well again...
captain emo 11 Posted January 20, 2013 Had the linings on the back done a few months ago. Had the car at the mechanics and through COR less than a month ago so wouldnt think it was the linings or pads but you never know. Thank you all for the suggestions. Anything is possible we had to replace my son's first set after 10 000 k's and nearly fell over backwards when the second pair lasted just as long! Second time round we were not as forgiving and he had to pay for them and learn to fit them himself...
captain emo 11 Posted January 20, 2013 Agreed anything is possible and hard to find a decent mechanic. Went through 4 of them before an oil leak was fixed properly because they were only looking where it was dripping rather than tracing it to the actual leak from a worn gasket seal. Wish I was more handy, unfortunately I can read and understand the theory behind how things like turbos for example work, just dont ask me to fix them. Give me a calculator rather, I'll do your taxes. Think it must be brake related. Had the cv joints checked and cleared when doing the COR.
Lukeness 10 Posted January 23, 2013 Check that you don't have a nervous family of mice living in your wheel arch.
Jongleur 10 Posted January 23, 2013 Check that you don't have a nervous family of mice living in your wheel arch. Indeed. Perhaps they should take up residence in the glove box instead. Poor dears.

Have the discs skimmed , Fiat is prone to that,UNO specifically ,if it is the discs replace them with new , if more prominent when turning then usually the discs , they can rub on the calipers with axial play when cornering .
