Cali Craft and Gems 14 Posted January 14, 2013 Asking this on hubby's behalf... Hubby did the competency exam, etc several years ago when we were still in PE. Been to the police station here in Oudtshoorn and it seems to us that they either don't stress about it or they don't know! (still waiting for them to inspect the installation of the safe almost a year down the line!) The main concern now is that hubby's gun licence expires in March 2013 and we would like to know what must be done - do we renew it (and if so, how?) or what?! Even our neighbour who is a policeman cannot answer us... and doing random searches for info on the net just ends up making us more confused than ever as no two sites have the same info or answers. Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated!
Virgotec 10 Posted January 14, 2013 Hi If your hubby has proof from the police station that he has applied to renew it as well as passed the competency, then his current licence is valid until such time as his new licence is approved or declined. He must however ensure that when he carries the firearm and old licence, that he also has the proof of application and competency with him, just in case he needs to shoot someone. No need to stress, in this new SA everything is about hurry up and wait. Regards
Virgotec 10 Posted January 14, 2013 Forgot to add, that if he takes his ID, proof of application (which should have a ref. no) and current licence to any cop shop with a Firearm licence section, they can check on their system to see the progress of his application.
