Unidentified western dated 1825 Indian Rupie - Can you help please?

Dear Collectors,

I have had this coin in my collection for over 6 years and cannot find it described in Krause or any other book.

It is an Indian Rupie with a date of 1825 on the one side. Looks like a chunky coin, probably hammered 4.3mm thick and 19.2mm in diameter. Weight 11.60gm.

I am no expert in Indian coins and the Inscription is possibly Parsi. Its date coincides with the British Rule there (1758 - 1947)

There are thousands of Rupies to go through and I cant place this one. All the Rupies I have looked at have ? Parsi inscriptions, but this one has a western date in print making it different.

Can anyone help?

HI George

Your coin is a silver dump (Rupee) from the Bombay Presidency struck at the Surat Mint. It is Krause number 218 (British India).

Regards

Pierre
