Oh boy... you would not believe what the learner drivers' have been up to recently!

They've taken out the front wall of Tannie Bessie's house in Park Street and parked in her stoep, they've wiped out countless street signs throughout town, they've had many accidents involving other vehicles varying in severity, they've even knocked a child down on the pavement! But this has to be one of the "best" achievements thus far this year:

What have the learner drivers' in your town / city achieved recently?

The learner drivers in Grahamstown seem far more inocuous - they just bump into other cars most of the time!

In Tennessee, DMV might as well be handing them out as the 'free prize' in a box of Cracker Jacks.

Here, you are allowed seven 'wrong' answers (usually 3 other States) and they 'give' you one...grins and giggles? That is a total of eight wrong answers out of around 25 on the written test.

And... when Phillip took the driving part of the test (a few years back), it was 'over and done with' in less than 10-minutes. He turned left out of the parking lot, drove down the road 'a piece', made a left hand turn, went a little further and another left hand turn and another and finally a left hand turn back into the parking area of the License Center. No highway driving, parking, etc....just left turns. He passed with only one 'write up': one tail light had mud on it. Kinda gives you an idea of the 'dumb-dumbs' behind the wheel here.

Well it sounds to be a much better method than is used at some testing stations in SA - the driver doesn't even have to attend his driving test - he just bribes someone and voila he has a driver's licence! A similar method is used for vehicle clearance testing (just this week a few illegal testing stations have been closed down). No wonder we have so many deaths on our roads.
