Hi,

It is a Holland 2 Ducat from 1759. Krause list it for $800 in VF, $1200 in EF, $1600 in UNC. It is 98.6% gold and contains 0.2212 Oz of gold (Krause). An MS62 example sold at HA on 27 April 2012 for $2070, but your example does not look close to MS .

My estimate value for the coin will be in the region of R5000 to R6000 (if it is authentic).

Kind regards

Gert

Thank you for the info, do you perhaps know if any forgeries exist?

Hi,

Sorry, I can't answer on the forgeries. However, there has been a huge influx of forged coins from China in the last couple of years (mostly poorly done) so the possibility of forgeries always exist.

Checking the weight and dimensions of the coin will at least determine that it is gold - it is not easy to get a non gold (or plated) forgery to match the weight and dimensions of a gold coin.

Kind regards

Gert
