Re: MindMap for extended structure

Here is the extended MindMap:  I propose that we should strike a balance between the simpler structure and this more comprehensive structure based on all the proposals posted in this forum.

@ Louwrence

I have one minor suggestion but of major importance.

Major Titles with large amount of listings as for Union, RSA, SWA -Homelands and wherever quantity necessitates it, show -

e.g. South Africa etc. but after STAMPS you need MINT and USED

The lister would have to indicate either MINT or MINT NEVER HINGED etc.

Otherwise it is go from me, what do others say ?

Regards

Erich

I also love these maps. Erich I get the point you are heading towards, however, what happens if a person sells mint AND postmarked stamps in one auction eg. a certain series containing both types?

Hi Julian,

Then it would go under COLLECTIONS or ACCUMULATIONS. are there such titles :?:

If not Lourence can put it in his Map

If it is one stamp or even one set Mint and used, the slight deviation for such items would hardly matter. Would go under say, Transkei (Rotary) Mint for one copy Mint & Used.

Should you think of another scenario, lets see :?:

The listings I have seen are mostly itemize on BoB.

Erich

Well if there is such section as in "Collections" then this problem would be sorted. And its not necessary to think of each possible philatelic scenario...;-)

I wish BoB would look at all this?

Hi sajuli,

There is a Collections title, so that is fine.

It would take bit it of programming and checking and surely they do read this.

It is afterall also in their interest to have a pleasant setup with our input.

Hi BoB do read our lips :?:

Latest MindMap

Here is the latest MindMap with all the proposals incorporated. I have also consolidated FDC/... and Postal History/... into the category Other Philatelic Items/FDCs; and expanded the homeland categories.

deleted - please resize - admin

This structure should cover most of the philatelic items we encounter on BoB . :)

@ BoB

@ All others

The result to a search mode could be something like this :-

Union of SOUTH AFRICA 1910-61 (254)

Mint (124)

Used (75)

FDC/OTHER (30)

Accum/Collections (25)

I think we have sent BoB a good propsal and sample regarding the category expansion under an appropriate heading.

I am sure if more can be done by members, they just need to be asked.

Best wishes

Erich

Hello Guys,

have you seen that they actually DID put some more categories in! (I guess lowrence you did ;-)). Is that close to the proposal you send into BoB?

Well at least it's a start.

The problem now is to get a philatelic minded moderator to shift many of the wayward lots into the right slot/category.

Once this is done BoB would also have a better overview to where new categories should emerge .

That would help for future novices to select the right category in the first place and a good start to get things sorted for easier browsing.

Your sarcasm is not going unnoticed. Continue, friend continue.

You are not winning friends.

It would you stand you in good instead to look for the post where I talk about this forum being for invited persons and not being a right.

Relax !

You are not winning friends.

Dear Admin,

Give us a break !!

I was under the impression some changes had occurred to which he replied and any sarcasm should not be found in that post.

These posts are not about winning or to irritate BoB but the philatelic community on this site have expressed their wishes for new categories for reasons as explained in same posts.

That is all I wish to add.

Hi Erich,

My experience from the past, when we moved from one Stamp category to the previous three sub-categories (First Day Covers, South African Stamps, and International Stamps), was that the sellers will eventually move their own items to the new sub-categories.

I have done it yesterday and it already paid-off in selling a couple of items from these new sub-categories.

omitted categories

I think the new category is better but can be imroved upon

World stamps- for other countries not covered in the category index

Collections - for a combination of countries sold in an album

Great Britain it has been omitted on it own

Commonwealth - this could also cover all countries in the commonwealth

Thematics - This is a whole new ball game because there are too many themes to mention, however, listed just as thematics should be considered

It would slimline the process a little more when trying to list the above as at the moment none of the above fit into any of the already listed category options.

I honestly hope Admin will look into this and give it serious consideration.

Hello all

I fully agree. I listed a George VI Commonwealth collection on this Wednesday's Crazy Auction. There was not category for it! Yet British Commonwealth is without doubt one of the biggest collecting fields in this country. The same applies to Great Britain. It is extremely popular with BidorBuy buyers.

I also agree with World and especially Collection categories.

Thanks

Jacques

Hi all

I agree with breaking down the categories but what I have seen is some sellers place for example, GB under RSA so that they will get more views, as RSA is searched or viewed more than others.

What I would really like to see is a seperate buy now category like Ebay has and even BoB stores. We should move with the times and follow what works.

If you want to contact someone from BoB, try posting in CAPS.
