Wreck / salvaged covers.

Hello all

I want to do a mini exhibition on crash / wreck / salvaged covers.

I have in my possession two aviation crash covers and two train covers. I am now looking for ship and motor transport covers. There is at least one recorded case in the RSA of a postal van that caught fire.

Surely there must be balloon crash covers, but these will be out of my range.

Any information would be appreciated.

Regards

Jacques

Thanks Kenny

Please bid on it on my behalf. I will swop you for a postcard of the Titanic entering Manhattan area / New York Harbour.

Seems as if one my aviation crash covers is after all a ship wreck cover. I was wrong, but wonderful news!

One day closer to the exhibition.

Organised philately is now well aware of us. Big brother is watching.

Regards

Jacques

This reminds me of a recent auction on another site where the item title was "USA 1955 CRUSHED airmail cover"

Yes, it quite literally was crushed, but it also had "damaged in plane crash" stamped on the cover. Well, it sold for 15 dollars or something like that. I wonder if it would have sold for more if crushed was spelt crashed.

Hello Rob

Thanks.

"damaged in plane crash"

Must have been a bargain to some seller. R150-00 at the most.

Hi

We need to jack-up our site, I visited another web site to see if I could help you out and there were no less than 35 crash covers on auction. This will not happen here unless collectors start paying more for postal history and other scarce items. I have noticed lately that sellers have stopped listing good items and this is probably due to them not getting the prices. If I purchaced a Boer War cover for 100 dollars and listed it on bid or buy, would I get my money back?. I honestly believe that bid or buy stores are needed so that buyers can see what items are supposed to sell for and get used to these prices. It is nice to offer bargains but there are limits to how much you can give away for nothing. Education, reference material etc is urgently required on the forum and of course, active participation.

hi jacques

I do remember finding a cover which was burnt and enclosed in a post office official envelope with an explanation that the delivery vehicle was involved in an accident and burnt out. This was in the 7 million Coca-Cola lot that I went through in 1996/97. The only problem is trying to find it in 40 boxes of postal history. So definately a crash cover !!!!!

If you need this one urgently let me know and I will try and find it

Hello David

Definitely the incident that I heard about. By a bitter coincidence, this mail van was carrying a stamp exhibit amongst the mail!

No hurry whatsoever. Anytime within the next hour or so should be fine.

This week there has been 2 train crashes and 3 busses caught fire, I would not advertise your need for crash covers too much I am already starting to wonder.

Shows you that I am now a true philatelist, going to the extreme extremes to obtain the material that I need.

I could not agree with you more.

I have listed a couple of really good items on the BuyNow, with no or very little success. Yet, these same items are sellable from my shop or at the various stamp fairs.

It also seems as if there is a ceiling of about R150-00 on Boer War covers on BidorBuy. I have sold a couple on the Crazy Wednesday Auctions, but can’t even replace them at the prices that they achieved.

Postal history is simply considered as being inferior on BidorBuy.

Well with the amount of crashes these days I am not supprised. Tell me you had nothing to do with the Aircraft crash in America this morning.
