Wondered what others thought about this art item up for sale in the current CW.

Acrylics - Frans Claerhout Original for sale in Kromdraai (ID:58300216)

Hi Ms Plod.

You have been scarce.Nice to hear from you again.

This was sold on 4 July last year. The "copy of a copied certificate" was discussed

extensively on the forum in various threads referring to different sellers who all had the same

"certificate". It also featured on Carte Blanche.

Thanks for speedy response - have been rather occupied with other bits and bobs...

Thought so - wonder whether this seller knows about all of this?

Difficult to say. Better to have the painting authenticated by an expert.

In general the quality on offer from certain sellers on BoB is exceptionally high.

One hopes it remains so.

It doesn't seem to bother BoB so why should we worry? The price was up to R501.00 last time I looked. Must say I wouldn't want to be the winning bidder.

My word!!! I did not realise that Kromdraai is near Bloemfontein! Darn, and I grew up in the Free State! Never too old to learn!

BoB did actually ask for proof of authenticity earlier today

Good for Uncle BoB. But did our crazy uncle get the authenticity? The copy of a copy of a who-knows-what document even if stamped by SAPS isn't proof that the painting is authentic. Or, perhaps, our SAPS are now trained to authenticate paintings?

An excellent proactive stance which will benefit all round not only for Claerhout artworks but art in general.

As previously mentioned the Claerhouts on offer are generally of a much higher standard.
