Black Tuesday

15 posts in this topic

THE National Press Club has called on South Africans to wear black on Tuesday in protest against the Protection of State Information Bill.

This forum has shown that preservation and access to information is most important.

Apologies in advance for raising this important issue here.

I shall not inform SARS of my earnings and hidden assets.

I like keeping secrets.

On a more serious note. What does this mean?

As far as i understand it, if the bill gets passed into law, the government can do what they like and people are not allowed to point fingers or ask questions.

Tomorrow Parliament are going to vote on the Classified Information Bill. If it gets passed, then it will be a Black Tuesday - hence the call for everyone to wear something black, even if it's just an armband or a black ribbon.

Can you imagine what SA will be with a muffled (muzzled?) press again? Horrors!

SA will be like Zimbabwe where the media is totally kept quiet.

It is sad to see South Africa return to those dictatorship days of the apartheid era. I recall how The Star newspaper used to leave blank spaces in front page articles - representing the censorship by the then National Government of parts of their story under a similar act aimed at keeping the public in the dark.

Kind regards

It is called The United Kingdom because it is ruled by a King,

It is called The United States of America because it is ruled by a State President,

that is unfortunately how far I got because I got stuck on why they call South Africa a Country :ninja:
