Silver Refining

20 posts in this topic

Hi

I have some silver international coins, and some South African badly worn silver coins. I want to refine them and have the silver melted.

Who can I turn to to help me with this and what will the cost be?

Thank you

Hi

I was just wondering, if i melt the coins what proof do i have to give to the seller that he is buying pure silver?

It will be hellishly expensive to do what you are suggesting.. unless you have a couple of tonnes of silver coins.

Kind regards

Refining & Smelting

If i read it right they keep 20% of the refined silver, minimum you can send is 1kg

I take mine to someone in Cape Town who uses the silver to manufacture jewellery.

He does go to Johannesburg quite often and is actually there until Monday.

All you have to do is sort the coins into their silver content ,500 ,800 etc

He pays the daily silver rate less 5%

Hi Pam

That sounds like a far better option!

Kind regards

Our secret..... We only pay spot plus 2% for 1kg bars...

Very cheap......

How difficult is it to melt silver?

Can this not be done in your garage with the right equipment?

Somethingworth googling, :)

you can refine with acid, there are plenty know how's on the net and video's on youtube. That is to separate the silver from the other metal, then you get the silver out (0.999). But to get the right acid can be a mission

Is the acid you talking about expensive or not easy to get?
