1959 South African Crown

Thought this was quite interesting.

The mint officially produced 500 silver ashtrays with 1959 crown inserts(see attached photos).

Not sure why they chose the scarcest of all the crowns to do this?

It looks as if they used business strikes, so you can subtract 500 from the 6139 minted, which means

there is only 2989 business strikes available, maybe why the MS graded ones are so scarce?

Not sure why Hern does not mention this in his catalogue?:hm:

Brian Hern, when I last saw him, was constantly sucking on that beloved pipe of his, but that was two years ago. Not sure if pipe smokers use ash trays, but if they did, watch out for nicotine stains on that 1959 crown!
