Cali Craft and Gems 14 Posted July 31, 2011 The gem would be either a Tanzanite or an Iolite, but based on the image, the seller has listed an Iolite.
Miss Jewels 10 Posted July 31, 2011 Some interesting reading for you: http://www.gemselect.com/gem-info/iolite/iolite-info.php http://www.gemstone.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103:sapphire&catid=1:gem-by-gem&Itemid=14 As far as my knowledge goes, there is no such thing as Iolite Tanzanite...these are two seperate stones. Lukeness 10 Posted August 1, 2011 Iolite is simply a much cheaper stone that can be a fairly convincing Tanzanite simulant.
kyle2 10 Posted August 1, 2011 I hate it when sellers don't specify what it is you are buying. A Tanzinite is a Tanzinite, an Iolite and Iolite and so forth, not a Ruby gem or a Tanzanite blue Sapphire. I get mad when I see this, newbies are often caught out by this type of advertising.
