Proof Pond 1892 PCGS PR53, Proof 2/6 PCGS PR65CA

I wonder if anyone can inform me about the market price for a Proof South Africa Pond 1892 graded by PCGS PR53 and also for a Proof South Africa 2 1/2 Shillings 1892 PCGS PR65CA (Cameo).

Thanks for the question. These are really big coins.

 

The Proof 65 Cameo Halfcrown is one of three graded (1 PCGS, 2 NGC) - should fetch in region of R80,000 in my view based on a Proof 1892 threepence sold about a year ago for R120,000 in South Africa and that was a unique coin. I put a value on a non Cameo Proof 65 2/6 at R50,000 at to-day's market prices.

 

The Proof 53 1892 Pond is the only circulated proof Pond graded (12 graded between NGC & PCGS) - Catalogued in Herns 2011 at R1,000,000- should fetch between R500,000 to R650,000 although Heritage Auctions in Texas would be the best place to realise that price in my view.
