Hi,

We recently bought in a parcel of coins which included this token.

It is a 2/- shilling bronze token with a MH monogram (letters overlapping)

Weight is 8.9g.

Diameter is about 28mm (size of a 2 Shilling)

Help needed in identifying this token!!

Come on all you token boffins!!!:whistling:

Cheers

Bruce

Hi Bruce

Seems like the token experts are stunned and so am I.

But the one thing that I can tell you as a metal detectionist, is that the token has been "dug" - it surely spent many years under ground before appearing again after how many years.

The green verdigri tells me that.

Did the other items in the lot that you bought also show the greenish characteristics?

Maybe the seller was also the finder and could direct you to the area / place / locality where it was found? Then one could possibly deduct from that, with the help of your local library and “old timers” still around, who they ("MH" company) were?

Pierre

Hi Bruce

It isn't a Strachan token. (The set two S&Co MH tokens are brass and clearly show the letters S&Co).

Have never seen one like it before.

Kind regards

No probs Bruce.

The Mountain Home store was only established after the first set of S&Co appeared. A nephew of the Strachan's, Rupert Jackson, ran the store.

For more see: Related history of the Strachan family

So the very rare MH trade tokens would have and did follow the Strachan design.

Kind regards
