Thank You

Once again, another very successful show. Thanks to all those who made the trip to attend. The S.A Mint FlyPress tickey's were once again a hit and were sold out quickly. The launch of the Rugby World Cup coins was also a hit and I must personally say the coins are indeed very pretty. There were items for everyone and it was also good to see many dealers with some good quality raw coins for sale. In all there were 16 dealers with St James of London and DNW of London attending as well as the S.A Mint. The National Cultural History Museum once again put on a splendid exhibit as well as the ABSA Money Museum.

At the dinner on Saturday night, SAAND announced the new grading service that will be launched shortly in South Africa. Watch the press for more details.

On exhibit was a 1926 Proof Set, a 1933 Proof Set, A 1939 Proof Set and a 1931 Proof Set. All NGC Slabbed.

Those that could not be there.... you missed out on a great show.

Thanks BIDORBUY for the advertising on the Website and the wonderful gift you sponsored for the raffle at the dinner

Cheers

Thanks, it was great.

Don't know how appropriate it was that Bidorbuy was there, but it was a good show.

Why not Paul? Would our support for local dealers and collectors and trying to grow the industry be detrimental to your business? Come on, let's be realistic - we want to encourage sellers and buyers, we want more people to be involved in numismatics, coin collecting, dealing, selling, hobbyists - if it's good for your business it's good for ours - what is so wrong with that!? Most dealers and buyers are active on bidorbuy, bar a few old school sellers and buyers, why would our encouragement and support of a very active and vibrant industry be detrimental? Your comments still puzzle me...

PBGold, you have taken every opportunity to run down bidorbuy, the logic or reason behind it is still a mystery to us all - the reason we are there is to grow this market, if the market is healthy and alive it benefits us too, buyers and sellers alike. Everyone knows we are "involved" (as a market place) in coin buying and selling (even though we are not a dealer) because of the fact we provide a market place for buyers and sellers to meet and to transact. Many dealers would not have businesses if it weren't for market places such as bidorbuy, eBay etc. and many buyers would not have access to this market due to their geographical location and other factors, so why would we not be there? If we can attract more buyers and sellers to the market place, that benefits mostly those buyers and sellers directly. bidorbuy provides another avenue for sellers to sell, it provides variety, bargains, exposure for sellers, convenience etc. Being at the fair is also a way for us to interact with our clients, many of which buy and sell on bidorbuy, and to get their feedback on issues and factors influencing the market.

Again, your reasons for posting here escape most of us?

Thank you.

I also forgot to add, why would we advertise the fair when we get absolute zero benefit from it financially? We do not get any revenue from advertising or encouraging users to go to the fair as we are not involved in any sales or deals that take place there!

I am not sure where you got your information from that the show is only for dealers and exhibitors. For your information, the show was advertised extensively as a PUBLIC show. We had +- 2000 people attend the show. The dealers and Exbibitors is what's needed to make this show a success. I for one am trying to work out why you are so anti in BidorBuy attending the show! BidorBuy plays an important role in the coin business in South Africa. The many contacts and coins sales would not have been possible had it not been for BidorBuy.

The importance of BidorBuy's presence at the show is huge to the industry. By informing the public of the benefits of using BidorBuy to buy and to sell numismatic items is a benefit to all who use BOB as a vehicle to transact.

I have heard comments similar to yours last year when we hosted the show by other members on this forum.

Whether you like it or not, BidorBuy is doing a great job promoting the coin section.

So again, please tell me what your real issue is. It is definately not about why BidorBuy was present at the show.

Cheers

I am not a coin person so may be butting in here but was this show by invite only? If not then surely it is deemed extremely rude to question who was present at a public event.

Hi Cuan (and the rest of the Bidorbuy team),

I think what Bidorbuy has been doing for the South African coin collecting community is simply amazing! I know of numerous individuals that have been attracted to the hobby due to the large variety of Numismatic material always available on Bidorbuy.

From my side, thank you for the good work, the interest you are showing (by making the effort to attend coin shows) and all the support you are giving to us Numismatists in SA!!

Kind Regards

Gert

PS I know my post is not exactly in line with the thread's title, but I just had to give my 2c worth.

Hi Sam

No, it definitely was not by invite only, it was open to the public.

I went with a friend and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

And yes, I also think Bidorbuy has every right to be there, just as anyone else has.
