I can't belive how many items this Scumbag sells, don't people catch on that it's almost impossible to get certain memorabilia but this guy gets it almost every week. I purchased an item from him and had it checked out by a pro and surprise surprise, it was a fake... Had item returned and was refunded.

Please people,it's guys like this that make purchasing sports memorabilia so difficult. I mean the guy certifies his own memorabilia...

Anyone else think it's dodge???

Hi rog163 and welcome to the forum.

The seller has overall great ratings and I'm sure BidorBuy have "proof" that the goods are "authentic". I personally however don't believe it either.

If you have proof that the item received was fake as you say, mail the details to communitywatch@bidorbuy.co.za . They will then handle the matter appropriately.

HI

I agree that this production line of signed memorabilia is beyond belief-And certified by their own "experts"-Plus is mostly on replicas which is then actually counterfeit items. The problem is 99% of these buyers of memorabilia will never have it authenticated so they are blissfully unaware of the fact that their signed item may well be a fake!!!

This is where BoB should be taking firm action - fakes are not allowed on BoB!

I feel the onus is on the seller to provide BoB with proper authentication and not just his "own experts" certifying things! It seems very unfair to buyers if they do not receive authentic goods.

I'm not entirely against what he has there, he might really have a well known supplier whom he buys his items from. He also has a shop as far as I know. I would just prefer a 3rd party CoA than an in-house hired handwriting analyst who then writes his own CoA.. (or is it just me)

The aspect of fake Mandela signatures was discussed on another BoB Forum thread some time ago...I think BoB eventually locked the thread.

When you look at genuine Mandela signatures they tend to be a bit "erratic" like most peoples signatures, not the crisply defined and identical Mandela signatures found for sale on BoB.....either on sports ware or philatelic material.

Take care when buying these items.

To be honest, for bragging rights I wouldn't mind framing a signed jersey and hanging it on my wall with a certificate of authenticity if I am able to get it for a very good price.. Everyone walking through the house will be amazed and if it does turn out to be a fake (I'll of course take it to a 3rd party) then only I will know and it'll still be a great deal...

Edit: ...but having a look at the prices I wouldn't get a great deal.. *sigh

Hey Libertas Computers...

Thing is, some people, including myself purchase sports memorabilia as an investment, in a couple years time, If you purchased something that is rare it will be worth alot of money but now that you can get the same "Rare" item at a qaurter of the price that almost looks real, why wouldnt someone go for that if they dont know better instead.

Another funny thing was that there is a company in the UK that also sells football memorabilia, and they actually have photos of the player signing the Item you purchase, BuyitSigned took the exact same photo from there website and used it on bidorbuy to use as "proof" that the item was signed by the player. The item he was selling, which was a boot, wasnt even the same colour as the one from the photo he got from the company website in the UK.

I sent him a couple questions regarding this on the item and the question would get deleted with no answer.

Even more care must now be taken-GOOGLE has paid the MANDELA TRUST a huge sum of money for the rights to digitalise all his documents and memorabilia-I presume these will be available for the crooks to download and then try to offload as original documents-This will be very scary for the buyer.

Good Day all,

To those who have pointed me in the direction of this thread; thank you.

I would like to point out that i have personally visited the Bidorbuy premises in Bryanston and have provided them with not only photos of signings but globally recognized authentication certificates pertaining to our items.

Many of our football(soccer) signed items were personally obtained during the World Cup in South Africa last year. We are also part of many global Autograph dealer communities where the dealers purchase from each other to resell.

I fully understand that you may question the authenticity of the items, its one of those things when dealing in Autographs but we are a business dealing in Autographs exclusively, so if we do not obtain the autographs personally, we purchase them from well known dealers in the industry. Being in the business, I have personally invested a lot of money in stock just as any other shop keeper would invest in stock for their shop.

I use Bidorbuy to market myself. Many companies spend a lot of money on Marketing, this is my way to market myself. Many of my buyers from Bob will end up buying framed items we have on display.

From time to time we have displays and stand at well known shopping centers such as Sandton City, Fourways mall etc. We are also in process of opening a shop at Johannesburg International Dute Free so when any of you travel, come by and say hello.

We take every effort to ensure that our autographs are genuine and to conform to international regulations for autograph re sale, we offer a life time money back guarantee should a person not be happy with an item.

Hi,

Thanks for clearing that up for all, much appreciated. I'll definitely then go to the duty free section and ask for my BoB discount on the duty free price:nuts:

@rog163 aka Vican123

I recall this incident, this however was in the very beginning when buyitsigned started up and the supplier at the time emailed me that photo stating it was from that particular boot being singed. Needless to say, we no longer deal with that supplier and now when we offer photos as Photo Proof, those are photos we have taken personally.

hi Rog163,

Thank you for uploading that file. Please could you provide the information on who the hand writing analyst was that wrote this as any analytical opinion that is provided, contact details as well as Name & surname has to be provided in order to verify the opinion.

Having said all of the above, we have implemented strict procedures in order to prevent any forged autographs to be resold by us.

What exactly are the strict procedures you use??

also regarding the refund, going through the statements, is there a reason why you didnt refund my brother the full amount?? You made a payment of R5000 and mailed him saying you would pay the last R3000 on the following monday, which never happened.

Also before i give you the details of the company i used to proof the items, can you provide me with details for the in house "specialists" that you use to authenticate your stuff??

I was under the impression that the full refund had been made? At the time I had employed someone to handle the accounts. If that was the case, why didn’t you let me know its been 10 months now?

We randomly have the items purchased from our dealers authenticated by PSA/DNA in order to ensure that they are not selling forged items. We have also sent many items to PSA/DNA on behalf of our customers for additional authentication at their request and none have returned non-authentic.

It was only picked up now that you owed the money, so can we expect the rest of the refund to be payed??

Also, this post isnt about getting the money owed, If you so sure that all your stuff is Authentic, then why isnt it supplied with a proper certificate from a proper company(3rd party, not you), if my brother hadnt got his stuff checked he would be sitting with fake memorabilia, so who else out there that cant afford R2 500 to get there stuff actually authenticated is sitting with fake memorabilia.

If you state that your stuff is 100% geniune but only randomly get it checked, this seems like false information to me.

Here is the website that did the proofing for us :

Also found other links regarding your business. see below :

http://forum.bidorbuy.co.za/community-chat-forum/11413-authentication-merobila.html

Funny how the second link talks about authenticity and you never getting back to him about it. Also the first link, the forum was closed due to you supplying proof but now that you have stated you only randomly get stuff checked, so did you supply bidorbuy with proof for one item and what about all the others??

Hi all

I purchased an item from buy it signed. I am by no means an expert or collector. I purely bought this thing as a nice decor piece.

http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/Item.jsp?Trade_TradeId=31807373

Excuse my ignorance, but is the certificate done by buyitsigned?

I was under the impression this was a 3rd party verification.

In Roberts defence, I emailed him when someone told me about this thread and was promptly replied to, that if I was concerned, that he would make a full refund.

Yes, I agree that random certification, is hardly safe. I cant really decide what to do. Guess I will sit tight and see where this goes.

Hi,

Please be advised that buyitSigned was at bidorbuy's offices and supplied us with proof of authentic off all items listed. If an item brought from the seller is fake we will require the necessary proof in this regard before we can take it up with the seller. rog163 please note your account is disabled as we did previously requested documentation on this account for registering invalid details. Please note we do not allow for users to register multiple accounts on our site.:ninja:

This thread will be closed now.
