Having seen a similar one from NGC, I would guess they could have done a MS61-63. Let me know via PM what it is?

BTW It does not mean that I agree with the grade - I'm just comparing to what I have seen.

There is no way this coin would grade MS. At best it is probably AU55. Thats just my opinion but I am curios to know what the powers to be have graded it.

Cheers

I can't get my camera at the right angle to photograph the reeding, but what I can tell you is that it is worn almost completely flat.

Hi

I would grade it a AU53, but knowing NGC I would say they graded this coin MS63.

Because I had in my hands a similar one recently, I am willing to bet money here - personally, I am not sure that I would even go AU.

Hi. My guess would be max AU53. Strange that there wear is more apparent on the reverse than obverse. Normally other way around.

One thing... and one thing only

There is only one thing a coin that looks like that should be used for and that is for buying groceries - like a half loaf of bread... :P

Maybe NGC should come up with a grading called "Totally circulated"

Am I going to be shot at dawn??

Voters: 10. You may not vote on this poll

What does "You may not vote on this poll" mean - how does anyone vote then?

Hi

According to the grades given on the poll the closest possible correct grade will be AU53 (some bag marks, some scratches, some lustre)

Please.....please.....just please don't tell me NGC graded this coin MS67 :o

Regards:cool:

Grading

:pKan ek 'n prys wen as ek reg raai?

Honestly - this grading is totally greek to me - I do not understand a word of it!!! Wish I was not so stupid!:(

AU means - Almost Uncirculated

XF means - Extra Fine

MS means - Mint State

Each has a number of "internal gradings" which mean that one can (for example) have an Almost Uncirculated coin which is less damaged than another Almost Uncirculated coin.

(I did not know any of these acronyms until about a month ago) - one of the reasons I love these fora - am learning soooooo much - great fun - thanks all!

I am FASCINATED to find out what NGC (another acronym for an American outfit who are internationally known for grading coins into these "acronymised" categories) has actually graded the coin as...

When is the poll going to close and the secret be revealed;)

OK, here it is. The number of "mistakes" like these seems to be increasing. How are these coins getting such high grades from NGC? I have a few coins I want to grade and wanted to send them to NGC, but if this is what I can expect to get back then why go through the risk and expense of sending them to the states?

Anyhow, here is the coin.......:o

 Ok I have been following this and now the total surprise!!

A coin that was surely in circulation

This grade leaves a bad taste in my mouth and now what? It is like Bumblebee mentioned "mistake" but I don't agree with this, the number of "Wrong" Grades that comes back from NGC is on the increase and this does say a lot for their integrity!!!!:(

Makes one wonder if the "mandela" turned the grader BLIND!

They have GOT to be joking, smoking their stinky socks, forgotten their spectacles or all three!! Not a chance that a bumped around coin such as this should be MS62!

I have a number of circulated coins that would be PF75 (sic) or MS75 (sic) compared with this well travelled coin!:P

Makes me REALLY think... Thanks for sharing this BumbleBee!

Like I said in previous postings regarding the inconsistance grading....... the days are gone when people actually buy the coin.... Today the coin says MS62..... who are we to argue with the powers to be, then know it all..... I guess you will have to pay the going MS62 price for a coin thats clearly in no way MS......

Costly mistake for the buyer........

Cheers
