Global Playstation 3 Glitch!!!

A GLITCH in the older “fat” PlayStation3 which prevented users from connecting to the PlayStation Network and playing most games has apparently been fixed without any intervention from Sony.

It is an issue that has affected gamers globally and somehow has similarities to the Y2k bug we all feared before the turn of the new millennium. The glitch that affected the PS3s reset systems to December 31 1999 or January 1 2000. For owners of the new slimline model you could breathe easy as these models weren’t affected.

The bug materialised two days ago when the PS3’s internal clock had problems switching dates from Feb 28 to March 1. As February 29 doesn’t exist this year, it messed up the system’s internal clock.

How were you affected by the bug if you were? If you managed to fix it yourself too like some did, how did you do it?

Hi Steve87,

Seems like Sony is taking credit for the fix.

"We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognised the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29th to March 1st, we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally," he said.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Hi Andries,

Yes I saw that. it does actually seem as if they are taking the credit for "resolving" the issue. I wonder how they managed to get hold of playstations worldwide, even in the areas where playing online hasn't taken off. mmm...
